THE PRINCESS OF FRANCE (2014)/VIOLA (2011)

Argentinian director Matías Piñeiro has emerged as one the most distinctive voices in contemporary Latin American cinema. Most recently, he has directed a series of films inspired by the comedies of William Shakespeare. In The Princess of France, a theater director returns home to Buenos Aires after his father’s death to prepare a radio production of Love’s Labour’s Lost. Reuniting with his repertory, he finds himself sorting out complicated romantic entanglements, as well as his muddled relations with the constellation of friends involved with the project. Viola follows a young woman who joins a small Shakespeare theater company for a production of Twelfth Night and becomes caught up in a seductive roundelay of romantic dalliances, intrigue and revelation.
