As part of his visit to India this week, University of Notre Dame Provost Thomas G. Burish spoke on Wednesday (Oct. 17) to a gathering of approximately 60 members of the Notre Dame Club of India in Mumbai.
Burish, who is in the country to further develop Notre Dame’s ties to it, focused his remarks on the University’s interest in admitting more students from India, noting that they currently represent the fastest-growing group of international students at Notre Dame.
The event was hosted by Notre Dame Club of India President Mayank Khemka. It took place several days after the latest installment in the University’s award-winning “What Would You Fight For?” video series—seen nationwide during Notre Dame home football games—featured Ebrahim Moosa, professor of Islamic studies, and his work with recent graduates of madrasas in India and Pakistan.
Mumbai was also a fitting place for Burish to meet with the Notre Dame Club of India, as in 2016, the University established one of its six Global Centers there. These facilities, along with five Global Gateways, form a global network that serves the research and learning interests of Notre Dame faculty and students while fostering rich collaborations with local universities, research centers, governments, churches, and grassroots organizations.
During his time in Mumbai, Burish met with U.S. Consul General Edgard Kagan, as well. His visit to India will conclude with meetings with government and business leaders in New Delhi.
